Falcon Women Down Western Washington 3-0 in Key GNAC Soccer Match
October 17, 2006

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE, Wa. (Oct. 17)—Tricia Loomis assisted on two goals and three different Falcons scored in all, as Seattle Pacific University downed Western Washington 3-0 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match Tuesday night at Interbay Stadium.

The victory over the Vikings (12-4-0/5-2-0) avenged a 2-1 loss at Bellingham Oct. 3, and moved Seattle Pacific into a tie with Western for second place in the GNAC. Seattle University currently sits in first.

Loomis’ (Jr., Des Moines, Wa../Mount Rainier) cross from the left corner found Shannon Oakes (So., Boise, Id.) in the 30th-minute. Oakes beat Western keeper Brittany Martin-Gegax to the left low corner from 12-yards. Seattle Pacific went into the locker room up 1-0 at intermission.

Western nearly equalized in the 68th-minute when Falcon keeper Katie Ruggles (Sr., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) pushed a well placed header by Amanda Font into the right post. Minutes earlier, SPU defender Claire Grubbs (So., Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) had blocked a Kelly Irving shot attempt at an open net from the center of the box.

Seattle Pacific’s Kayla Stiegemeier (Fr., Rathdrum, Id./Lakeland) fielded a long free-kick down the center from Grubbs and scored in heavy traffic to the upper right corner at 74:42.

Alex Kirk (Fr., Edmonds, Wa./Edmonds-Woodway) shored up scoring at 82:32 by virtue of Loomis’ second assist of the night, off a free-kick.

The Falcons out-shot Western nine to five, and earned three corner-kicks to the Vikings’ one. Martin-Gegax finished the match with one save; Ruggles had five.

The Falcons (14-3-0/5-2-0) host Western Oregon in the final home game of the season Saturday. Seattle Pacific has lost just once in its last 22 (19-1-2) matches at Interbay. Kick-off is scheduled for 3PM, and seniors Ruggles, Mollie Taylor (Sr., Westlake Village, Ca./Oaks Christian) and Carolyn Nason (Sr., Lafayette, Co./Broomfield-Metro State) will be honored in a short ceremony preceding the match.
