SEATTLE (Oct. 16) A goal by Reece Miles
with 18 minutes left lifted Simon Fraser to a 2-1 win over Seattle
Pacific University in a non-conference men's soccer game at
Interbay Stadium Monday night.
The loss was only the second in the last 10
games for the Falcons (11-4-0), ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II.
After Seattle Pacific had pulled even and began
to take control of possession, the Canadians counterattacked
quickly, with Miles cracking an 18-yard shot to the left post at
71:43.
Colin Rigby (Sr., Mercer Island, Wa.) had
equalized for Seattle Pacific in the 64th minute, heading in his
sixth goal of the season and the fourth in as many games. A free
kick from the left win was flicked on to Daniel Carpenter (So.,
Santa Cruz, Ca.), whose short cross found Rigby 6 yards from the
far post.
Simon Fraser (4-6-3) had opened the scoring in
the 20th minute. Scott McEachern nodded home a corner kick from
Ljubomir Acimovic.
The Falcons, coming off a win over No. 15
Seattle University, did not generate much offense in the first
half. Still, they nearly tied it on a 25-yard free kick by Josh
Burnside which Clan goalie Thomas Lindley batted off the right
post.
SPU finished with an 11-9 edge in shots and
10-3 in corner kicks.
Michael Morris returned after missing two games
with a concussion sustained in an Oct. 7 car accident, only to be
ejected with 4:21 remaining in the game.
Seattle Pacific's final regular season home
game is Friday night against Western Washington.
