October 14, 2006

Complete Box Score

NAMPA, Id. (Oct. 14)—Alex Kirk scored twice and Kayla Stiegemeier produced a goal and two assists as Seattle Pacific University won 5-2 at Northwest Nazarene in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match Saturday at Nampa.

Idaho native Stiegemeier (Fr., Rathdrum, Id.) came off the bench to strike the Falcons opening goal and tie the game at one apiece in the 27th minute before Kirk (Fr., Edmonds, Wa.) hit the next two to open up a 3-1 advantage.

Stiegemeier’s goal came off a pass from midfielder Shannon Oakes (So., Boise, Id.). Both of Kirk’s goals came shortly after intermission - the game-winner in the 50th-minute after Jessica Gerstmann (Jr., Puyallup, Wa.) redirected Stiegemeier’s free-kick to Kirk.

The freshman forward beat Crusader keeper Amanda Merrell from five yards on the right side. Kirk has six goals on the season, two less than leading scorer Sarah Martinez (Jr., Bothell, Wa.) who did not suit up for the match because of a knee injury.

NNU got on the scoreboard first, when Sarah Luhman beat SPU goalkeeper Katie Ruggles (Sr., Eugene, Or.) to the low post from the left side in the 21st minute. Luman had assistance from Katy McNutt and Kristi Rice on the play.

Claire Grubbs (So., Sterling, Va.) and Carolyn Nason (Sr., Broomfield, Co.) shored up scoring for the Falcons on a pair of corner-kicks, respectively. Gerstmann was given an assist on Grubbs’ header (66:20); Tricia Loomis (Jr., Des Moines, Wa.) on Nason’s nod at 85:02.

NNU’s Carlee Stinton beat substitute keeper Jesslyn Rahm (Fr., Eugene, Or.) at 89:38 for the final goal of the afternoon.

Seattle Pacific out-shot the Crusaders an overwhelming 24-9, and held a 10-5 advantage in corner-kicks. Ruggles made three saves in goal. Northwest Nazarene’s Merrell finished with nine.

The Falcons (13-3-0/4-2-0) return to Seattle to host a pair in the final home stand of the season beginning Tuesday night against Western Washington. Kick-off is scheduled for 7PM. Seattle Pacific has lost just once in its last 21 (18-1-2) matches at Interbay.
