Shorthanded Falcon Men's Soccer Team Wilts in Phoenix, 3-2 in Overtime
October 10, 2006

Complete Box Score

PHOENIX (Oct. 10) Playing without its top two scorers, Seattle Pacific University squandered a two-goal second-half lead and lost in overtime to Grand Canyon, 3-2, in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday afternoon.

The Antelopes (7-6-0) got two goals from Uglijesa Vrbica in the final 24 minutes of regulation and Vrbica set-up David Hague for the game-winner 2 minutes, 53 seconds into sudden death.

Winners of seven straight, the 6th-ranked Falcons (10-3-0) had gone ahead 2-0 when Jeff Hallenbeck (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor) connected two minutes after halftime. It was his third goal in the last four games and was created by a cross from Alec Nelson (Fr., Lynnwood, Wa./Meadowdale).

Colin Rigby (Sr., Mercer Island, Wa.) had opened the scoring from 12 yards in the 28th minute off a feed from Andy Willis (Sr., Gig Harbor, Wa.).

SPU was missing forward James Coggan (Jr., San Jose, Ca./Valley Christian) and midfielder Michael Morris (Sr., Bothell, Wa./Blanchet) from injuries suffered in a Saturday car crash. Coggan had scored three times in the last two games. Both are questionable for Saturday's home game with Seattle University.

Grand Canyon's win was its fifth in a row and the third at home in four days. It atoned for a 4-3 overtime loss at Seattle Sept. 22.
