No. 19 Falcons Close Out Road Trip With 2-1 Women's Soccer Win Over Dixie State
October 9, 2006

Complete Box Score

PHOENIX, Az. (Oct. 9)—Jessica Gerstmann gathered in a rebound off a saved shot and scored late in the game to lift No. 19-ranked Seattle Pacific University to a 2-1 victory over Dixie State in a non-conference women’s soccer match Monday at Phoenix.

Gerstmann’s (Jr., Puyallup, Wa./Cascade Christian) strike came just after Dixie State goalkeeper Suzy Hunt batted down Alex Kirk’s (Fr., Edmonds, Wa./Edmonds-Woodway) attempt in the 83rd-minute. Gerstmann has either scored or assisted in each of Seattle Pacific’s last three matches.

The Rebels’ Mikala Wilkes knotted the game at one apiece in the 62nd-minute.

Kirk had earlier opened up match scoring at 29:27 with assistance from midfielder Kara Hamby (Jr., Spokane, Wa./Mead) when she slotted an eight-yard shot to the low left corner off Hamby’s 30-yard diagonal pass. Kirk has two goals in the Falcons’ last two matches.

Seattle Pacific (12-3-0) out-shot Dixie 15-5, and held a five to two advantage on corner-kicks. Hunt registered a match-high three saves; SPU’s Katie Ruggles (Sr., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) had one.

The Falcons resume Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday. Seattle Pacific returns to its home turf of Interbay Oct. 17, to host Western Washington in the first installment of the final home stand of the season.
