COLORADO SPRINGS (Oct. 5) Ignited by an
early 30-yard strike from Colin Rigby, 6th-ranked Seattle Pacific
University beat UC Colorado Springs 4-0 for its seventh straight
men's soccer win Thursday night at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Jeff Hallenbeck (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor),
James Coggan (Jr., San Jose, Ca.) and Drew Macha (So., Eugene,Or.)
got the other goals as the Falcons (10-2-0) scored three times in
the first 27 minutes.
Rigby (Sr., Mercer Island, Wa.) got the ball 35
yards out, cut left past a defender and struck a rising ball into
the upper corner at 8:27.
In the 13th minute, Hallenbeck ran onto a long
through ball from Matt Kemper (Jr., Colorado Springs) to make it
2-0 on a breakaway.
Kellen Rosten (Jr., Colorado Spring, So) made a
pivotal first-half save, going full stretch to stop a low drive
from Matt Eshbach. Moments later, at 26:22, Coggan hit an 5-yard
header for his team-leading fifth goal on a cross from Brandon
Crutchfield (Fr., Snohomish, Wa.).
In the second half, Macha closed out the
scoring, stealing the ball from a defender and beating UCCS keeper
Isaac Kostrow from 15 yards for his first collegiate goal.
It was the first loss in three games for the
Mountain Lions (6-8-1).
Seattle Pacific, off to tis best start since
1994, faces Hawaii Pacific in Phoenix Saturday night.
