No. 16 Redhawks Deal No. 6 Falcons 1-0 Women's Soccer Loss

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 30)—Mickey Pelland scored from 30-yards late in the second half as No. 16 Seattle University dealt No. 6 Seattle Pacific University a 1-0 loss in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match Saturday night at Interbay Stadium.

The decision broke a 47-game GNAC unbeaten streak (43-0-4) for Seattle Pacific and marked the first time the Falcons have lost at home in 19 matches (18-0-2). Seattle University improved to 5-0-0/10-1-1 while SPU dropped to 3-1-0/9-2-0.

Pelland (Jr., Seattle, Wa./Shorecrest) gathered in a loose ball and unloaded a long shot that found the upper left corner at 78:14. SPU keeper Katie Ruggles (Sr., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) could not get a hand on the ball.

The Falcons’ Kayla Stiegemeier (Fr., Rathdrum, Id./Lakeland) nearly got SPU on the scoreboard first when she forced SU keeper Kaitlyn Jackson (Jr., Kent, Wa./Kennedy Prep.) into a diving save in the 61st-minute. Jackson pushed Stiegemeier’s shot from 15-yards around the left post.

Seattle Pacific out-shot the visitors 10-6. The Falcons earned five corner-kicks to Seattle U’s two. Fouls were 13-5, Redhawks.

Jackson tallied seven saves in goal; Ruggles finished with three.

Seattle Pacific and Seattle University were picked in a preseason coaches poll to finish first and second in the GNAC, respectively. The Falcons kick-off next at Western Washington on Tuesday night (Oct. 3).
