September 30, 2006

Complete Box Score

ELLENSBURG, Wa. (Sep. 30) Rachel Biornstad had a match-high 22 kills and seven block assists to lead Seattle Pacific to a 3-1 victory over host Central Washington in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match between nationally ranked teams Saturday night at Nicholson Pavilion.

The Falcons (8-0 GNAC, 16-2), ranked 18th in NCAA II, opened up a two and a half game lead over 15th-ranked Central Washington (5-2 GNAC, 14-3), and finished the first half of league play as the GNAC’s only undefeated team. The two teams shared the conference title last season.

Biornstad (Jr., 6-0, Kent, Wa./Kentlake) was also SPU’s most efficient attacker, with a .341 hitting percentage. She also had five digs and a pair of service aces. Alyssa Given (Jr., 5-10, Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) chipped in with 14 kills and 10 digs.

The Wildcats were led by Stephanie Powell, who had 15 kills and three digs. Kristin Pasley added 12 kills, 12 digs and seven block assists in the loss.

Angie Wodrich (Jr., 5-10, Richland, Wa.) added nine kills, 17 digs and four blocks, and Tiffany Butac (Sr., 5-2, Pearl City, Hi./Hawaii Baptist) led all players with 33 digs.

The Falcons hit just .111 as a team, but held Central to .105 for the match. Seattle Pacific also benefited heavily at the service line. The Falcons had nine service aces to just two by the Wildcats.
