September 28, 2006

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 28)—Shannon Oakes, Sarah Martinez and Carolyn Nason each scored goals as the No. 6-ranked Seattle Pacific University women’s soccer team downed Central Washington 3-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match Thursday night at Interbay Stadium.

The victory pushed forward a pair of unbeaten streaks for SPU. The Falcons have not lost a GNAC match in their last 47 tries (43-0-4), and have not lost a contest at Interbay in 20 games (18-0-2). The GNAC streak dates back to 2002.

Oakes (So., Boise, Id./Boise) opened up match scoring in the seventh minute when Katie Taylor (So., Vancouver, Wa./Columbia River) sprung Alex Kirk (Fr., Edmonds, Wa./Edmonds-Woodway) free down the left wing. Kirk’s cross found Oakes trailing Martinez (Jr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) through the box (6:28).

Martinez struck net at 66:17 when she fielded a pass near midfield from Kayla Stiegemeier (Fr., Rathdrum, Id./Lakeland) and romped 40-yards to goal. Martinez beat Wildcat keeper Erin Barr to the left post.

Seattle Pacific’s final goal came off Nason’s header (Sr., Lafayette, Co./Broomfield/Metro-State) in the 84th-minute. Tricia Loomis (Jr., Des Moines, Wa./Mount Rainier) was credited with an assist on the play by virtue of her corner kick.

Overall, the Falcons out-shot Central 21-2. SPU earned four corner kicks to the Wildcats’ none.

Katie Ruggles (Sr., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) earned the shutout in goal for Seattle Pacific and gathered in one save over the course of the match. Barr saved eight balls.
