SEATTLE (Sept. 25) An overtime penalty
kick by Michael Morris extended Seattle Pacific University's win
streak to five games with a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer
decision over Notre Dame de Namur Monday night at Interbay
Stadium.
The victory was the 500th for Cliff McCrath as
coach of the 16th-ranked Falcons (8-2-0), who were extended to
double overtime for the second time in three days.
Morris (Sr., Bothell, Wa./Blanchet) stepped to
the spot and drilled his shot high into the right corner to end
the game at 101:35. Rising to head a corner kick from Morris,
Colin Rigby (Sr., Mercer Island, Wa.) of Seattle Pacific had been
brought down by the Argonauts' Anthony Putrus.
After exchanging goals in the game's first 24
minutes, both teams wasted numerous opportunities to end the match
in regulation.
Anton Del Rosario struck first, taking down a
cross and beating SPU keeper Kellen Rosten from 6 yards at 13:43.
Jeff Hallenbeck (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor)
equalized 10 minutes later, converting into an open net after
Rigby had flicked on a long throw by Brandon Crutchfield (Fr.,
Snohomish, Wa.).
Two NDNU (4-3-2) shots hit the post and
crossbar and Nick Hooper broke free to go 1-on-1 versus Rosten in
the dying seconds of regulation, only to have his shot saved as
time expired.
Seattle Pacific's James Coggan hit the crossbar
in the 56th minute and Daniel Carpenter's volley was blocked on
the goal line in the 100th minute.
The Falcons conclude their home stand Friday
night, hosting Regis.
