SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 23)Kayla Steigemeier
nodded home the game-winning goal in the second half of play to
lift No. 6-ranked Seattle Pacific University to a 2-1 victory over
Grand Canyon in a non-conference womens soccer match
Saturday night at Interbay Stadium.
The victory pushed the Falcons
(9-1-0/2-0-0) home unbeaten streak to 18 straight games. Grand
Canyon dropped to 0-8-0 on the season.
Steigemeier (Fr., Rathdrum, Id./Lakeland)
nodded a left-side cross from Sarah Martinez (Jr., Bothell,
Wa./Cedar Park Christian) to the right post in the 68th-minute for
the game-winner (67:81). Steigemeier's header was from 10-yards.
Martinez opened match scoring at 11:57 when
Shannon Oakes (Jr., Boise, Id./Boise) parlayed a ball Meredith
Teague (So., Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian), who had broken free
on the left. Teagues cross found Martinez on her run through
the box.
The Antelopes equalized at 62:45, when
Stephanie Barrow squeaked a ball into the net amidst a pile of SPU
defenders. Dana Szeghalmi started the play with a cross from deep
on the left side.
Grand Canyons Jen Munger registered five
saves in goal. Seattle Pacifics Katie Ruggles (Sr., Eugene,
Or./South Eugene) had a pair.
Seattle Pacific out-shot the Antelopes 16-5.
Fouls were 18 17, SPU. Five cautions were issued including a
red card to Munger in the 82nd minute.
The Falcons play host to Central Washington in
a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match Thursday night (Sept.
28). Kick-off is scheduled for 7PM.
