Rigby Scores in OT, Decision Over Grand Canyon Nets Falcon Men's Soccer 500th Program Win
September 22, 2006

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Sept. 22) Colin Rigby scored with 8 minutes left in the second overtime, lifting 16th-ranked Seattle Pacific University to its 500th victory, 4-3 over Grand Canyon in a non-conference men's soccer game at Interbay Stadium Friday night.

After twice going ahead by two goals off scoring by Brandon Crutchfield (Fr., Snohomish, Wa.), Andy Willis (Sr., Gig Harbor, Wa./Gig Harbor) and Matt Kemper (Jr., Colo. Springs, Co.), the Falcons (7-2-0) bounced back for their fourth win in a row.

Uglijesa Vrbica had two goals for the Antelopes (2-5-0), who sent the game into extra time on Alex Bailey's strike with 3:06 remaining in regulation.

Rigby (Sr., Mercer Island, Wa.) ended the game in the 102nd minute. Following a long free kick into the box by Josh Burnside (Fr., Black Diamond, Wa./Kennedy), the ball was flicked on by Jordan Dettmer (Fr., Snohomish, Wa.). Running toward the right post, Rigby swept the ball into the net from 4 yards.

Despite being out-shot 6-1 in the first 25 minutes, Crutchfield opened the scoring by volleying a short clearance from the top of the box. Willis scored in his third straight game with a glancing near-post header in the 35th minute.

Vrbica answered with a volley of his own at 60:54, but Kemper converted a free kick from Michael Morris in the 71st minute, restoring the lead to 3-1 for Seattle Pacific.

Less than two minutes later, Vrbica pulled Canyon a goal back and Bailey made it 3-3 in the 87th. The 'Lopes finished with a 17-13 edge in shots.

Both teams hit the post and, to start the second overtime, Rigby skipped an 18-yard shot off the crossbar.

Cliff McCrath has coached 499 of Seattle Pacific's wins since the program began in 1968.
