Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Sep. 16) – Alyssa Given led three Falcons in double figures in kills as Seattle Pacific swept Western Washington in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (4-0 GNAC, 12-2), ranked No. 19 in NCAA II, won their 15th straight conference match to remain undefeated in league play this year. Seattle Pacific also knocked the Vikings (3-1, 7-5) out of a three-way tie for first, leaving the GNAC with just two teams undefeated in league play.

Given (Jr., 5-10, Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) finished with 13 kills and 17 digs. Angie Wodrich (Jr., 5-10, Richland, Wa.) added 12 kills, 15 digs and four block assists. Shelby Gihring (Sr., 5-10, Kent, Wa./Kentlake) rounded out the trio with 10 kills.

After Seattle Pacific cruised 30-19, 30-18 in the first two games, Western Washington fought back to provide the typical back and forth battle when these two teams meet. The Vikings captured their largest lead of the match, 10-5, early on, but SPU stormed back to pull ahead 25-18.

The Falcons appeared headed for an easy sweep with a 28-24 lead, but the Vikings scored five straight points and were serving for game point. The Falcons came back with two straight and, after the teams exchanged a point each, SPU closed the match on a ferocious block by Jenna Von Moos (Sr., 5-10, Stanwood, Wa.) and Rachel Biornstad (Jr., 6-0, Kent, Wa./Kentlake).

Biornstad finished with eight kills and four block assists in the victory. Von Moos had five kills, on just seven attempts. To go along with a match-high 41 assists, 15 digs and three blocks. Seattle Pacific had eight team blocks.

Jaime Anderson paced the Vikings with 12 kills and nine digs. Emily Castro and Tiana Roma added eight kills each.

SPU libero Tiffany Butac (Sr., 5-2, Pearl City, Hi./Hawaii Baptist) led all players with 25 digs.

The Falcons recorded a .235 hitting percentage for the match and held Western Washington to just .085, as the Vikings committed 25 hitting errors.

The Falcons next embark on a four-match GNAC road trip beginning Thursday at Northwest Nazarene at 6:00 p.m. That trip ends in Ellensburg, Wa. with a showdown against No. 13 Central Washington, who is also a perfect 4-0 in league play.
