SEATTLE (Sep. 14) The Seattle Pacific
volleyball team put on a dominant performance in its first home
league match of the season, defeating Western Oregon 3-0 in Great
Northwest Athletic Conference action Thursday night at Brougham
Pavilion.
The Falcons (3-0 GNAC, 11-2), ranked 19th in
NCAA II, recorded their 14th straight GNAC and 13th straight home
victories 30-14, 30-8, 30-20. Western Oregon dropped to 1-2 in the
GNAC and 3-10 overall.
Seattle Pacific hit at a solid .267 clip and
did not allow the Wolves into positive figures in a single game,
-.039 for the match. The Falcons also finished with eight blocks
and 14 service aces compared to just four and one, respectively,
by the Wolves.
Angie Wodrich (Jr., 5-10, Richland, Wa.) paced
the SPU attack as the only player in the match to record double
figures in kills. She finished with 11 kills and a match-high six
service aces. Wodrich also hit at a .391 clip.
Shelby Gihring (Sr., 5-10, Kent, Wa./Kentlake)
added eight kills on a .350 hitting percentage to go along with 11
digs and three block assists. Rachel Biornstad (Jr., 6-0, Kent,
Wa./Kentlake) chipped in with seven kills and four block assists.
Shakira Jenkins led Western Oregon with seven
kills in the loss.
The Falcons host Western Washington in a GNAC
match Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
