SEASIDE, Calif. (Sept. 12) James Coggan
and Jeff Hallenbeck scored first-half goals less than two minutes
apart and Seattle Pacific University went on to beat Cal State
Monterey Bay 3-1 in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday.
All of the game's goals occurred in the first
24 minutes, with Andy Willis (Sr., Gig Harbor, Wa./Gig Harbor)
completing the scoring for the Falcons (5-2-0), who won four of
their five games on the two-week trip through northern California.
Coggan (Jr., San Jose, Ca.) notched a goal and
an assist. He opened the scoring in the 16th minutes, ramming home
a rebound after Steve Spencer's (Sr., Scottsdale) initial shot was
stopped by Otters goalie Micheal Seelandt.
Ninety-five seconds later, Hallenbeck (Jr.,
Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor) weaved through the defense on the wing
before cutting inside an drilling a 22-yard, left-footed shot into
the upper corner.
Monterey Bay pulled a goal back in the 20th
minute, but Willis sealed the win by finishing Coggan's cut-back
pass at the far post.
The Falcons forced Seelandt to make five
second-half saves and six altogether. They finished with a 12-9
edge in shots.
The Otters (0-4-0) were issued four yellow
cards, and three SPU starters left the game and did not return
following hard fouls.
