FAIRBANKS, Ak. (Sep. 9) Rachel Biornstad had
match highs in kills and hitting percentage to lead nationally
ranked Seattle Pacific to a 3-0 sweep over host Alaska Fairbanks
in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match Saturday night in
Fairbanks.
Seattle Pacific (2-0 GNAC, 10-2), ranked No. 18
in NCAA II, won its fourth straight match of the season and 13th
straight in league play. Game scores were 30-25, 30-19, 30-25
Biornstad (Jr., 6-0, Kent, Wa./Kentlake) picked
up 17 kills while hitting for a whopping .412 percentage. Seattle
Pacific hit .227 as a team, while Alaska Fairbanks (0-2 GNAC, 1-8)
hit .160.
Shelby Gihring (Sr., 5-10, Kent, Wa./Kentlake)
added 11 kills and seven digs, and Alyssa Given (Jr., 5-10,
Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) finished with 10 kills, a .360 hitting
percentage and seven digs.
Korlyn Bolster had eight kills and hit at a
.400 clip in the loss for the Nanooks.
Angie Wodrich (Jr., 5-10, Richland, Wa.)
finished with eight kills and 12 digs for the Falcons. Tiffany
Butac (Sr., 5-2, Pearl City, Hi./Hawaii Baptist) led all players
with 16 digs, and Jenna Von Moos (Sr., 5-10, Stanwood, Wa.) had a
match-high 44 assists.
The Falcons return to Seattle later this week
for their first home conference match of the season. SPU hosts
Western Oregon Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
