Moriarty Fifth in Chico; Pixler, SPU Women Win Emerald City Invitational Cross Country Meet

OROVILLE, Calif. (Sept. 9) ­ Paced by Mary Moriarty, all three of Seattle Pacific University's runners finished among the top eight at the Chico State Invitational cross country meet at Forebay Aquatic Center.

Moriarty (So., Seattle, Wa./Ballard) ran fifth in the 6000-meter race in 25 minutes, 10 seconds. Chico State took the top four places, led by Mary Torres in 24:26.

Meanwhile, Jessica Pixler (Fr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) handily won the Emerald City Invitational at Seattle's Lower Woodland Park, leading the rest of the Falcon women to their second straight team title, 28-40, over Western Washington. The SPU men were second to the Vikings, 35-81.

Pixler, who just returned from a women' soccer road trip, coasted to a 44-second victory over Rachel Brewer of Club Northwest and 60 seconds over the next collegian. Seattle Pacific's Suzie Strickler (So., Richland, Wa.) was fifth.

For the men, Western's Anthony Tomsich was first over 8k in 26:52. Bjorn Bostrom (Sr., LaCOnner, Wa./Bellingham) was the Falcons' top scorer, taking seventh.

In California, Jane Larson (Fr., Fall City, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) and Karin Rohde (Jr., Bellingham, Wa./Mt. Baker) were seventh (25:15) and eighth (25:16), respectively, on the same course to be used for the West Regional later this season.

Next Saturday the SPU teams will be united for the Sundodger Invitational in Lincoln Park.
