TURLOCK, Calif. (Sept. 8) Alec Nelson's
first collegiate goal was the difference as Seattle Pacific
University beat Cal State Stanislaus 1-0 in a non-conference men's
soccer game Friday at Warrior Field
The 22nd-ranked Falcons (4-2-0), playing their
fourth road game in seven days, got three saves from goalkeeper
Kellen Rosten (Jr., Colorado Springs, Co.) for their fourth
shutout win.
In the 36th minute, Jeff Hallenbeck (Jr.,
Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor) set-up the game's only goal, sending a
ball through the box and beyond the reach of CSS goalie Mando
Herrera. Lurking at the far post, Nelson (Fr., Lynnwood,
Wa./Meadowdale) scored from 8 yards.
The visitors nearly put the game beyond reach
late in the match. Michael Morris (Sr., Bothell, Wa./Blanchet) of
SPU saw his shot cleared off the goal line by a defender in the
86th minute.
Rosten's most difficult stop came with the game
still scoreless as he deflected a drive by the Warriors' (3-2-0)
Frank Coehlo. Stanislaus finished with an 11-7 advantage in shots,
but Seattle Pacific owned a 5-2 edge in corners.
SPU plays Tuesday at Cal State Monterey Bay
before opening Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Sept. 16
