BELMONT, Ca. (Sept. 7)Sarah Martinez and
Kayla Steigemeier each scored goals, and were the beneficiaries of
a pair of Meredith Teague assists as Seattle Pacific University
downed Notre Dame de Namur in a non-conference womens soccer
game Thursday afternoon in Belmont.
Teague (So., Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian)
served up a 40-yard diagonal cross to Martinez (Jr., Bothell,
Wa./Cedar Park Christian) in the 22nd minute to open up scoring.
Martinez trapped the ball and sent a slicing shot past Notre Dame
de Namur keeper Candace Schrodetski to the left post for her
second goal of the season.
At 30:22, Steigemeier (Fr., Rathdrum,
Id./Lakeland) ran onto Teagues through ball and out-raced
several defenders to goal. Steigemeiers shot found the right
corner.
Overall, Seattle Pacific out shot the Argonauts
17-1 and earned a half-dozen corner kicks to the Argos 0.
SPU Keeper Katie Ruggles (Sr., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) recorded
the shutout.
The Falcons (5-1-0) take a 44 (40-0-4) match
unbeaten streak into Great Northwest Athletic Conference play
beginning Sept. 13 at Western Oregon. Seattle Pacific returns to
its home turf of Interbay Sept. 21.
