SEATTLE (Sept. 7) Seattle Pacific
University has been selected to host the 2007 USA Gymnastics
Collegiate Championships at Brougham Pavilion next spring.
Eight women's teams, including the Falcons,
will participate in three-day event, April 19-21. USA Gymnastics
has sponsored the meet since the NCAA stopped its Division II meet
in 1986.
This marks the third time that SPU has hosted
the USAG meet. In 1996 and '97, the Falcons set home attendance
records and claimed the 1997 team title.
The meet features four sessions, beginning with
two qualifying stages the first day, followed by team finals and
individual finals. Start times and ticket prices have yet to be
finalized.
Among those teams competing in the USAG
Championships in recent seasons have been Rutgers, UC Davis,
Cornell, William & Mary, Centenary, Temple, Air Force and
Texas Women's, the latter having claimed its record eighth
championship in 2006.
Seattle Pacific has won a total of three team
crowns (1986, '92 and '97) and finished among the top four teams
in Division II 21 consecutive years from 1983-2003. The Falcons
were eighth this past season.
The USAG men's collegiate championships, which
have been held in conjunction with the women's meet for the past
21 years, will be at a different site in 2007 due to a conflict in
scheduling.
