Hard-Hitting Falcons Spike Visiting Vulcans
August 30, 2006

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Aug. 30) – Behind juniors Alyssa Given and Angie Wodrich, nationally ranked Seattle Pacific put on a hitting clinic and cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Hawaii Hilo in a non-conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Given (5-10, Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) recorded a match-high 18 kills on a .459 hitting percentage to go along with 15 digs. Wodrich (5-10, Richland, Wa.) was almost equally as effective with 15 kills and hitting at a .419 clip.

After dominant performances in the first two games in which they never trailed, the Falcons (5-1), ranked 18th in NCAA II, had to overcome an early deficit in the third for the sweep, their 12th straight win at home. The Vulcans pulled ahead 10-4, but SPU scored four straight points and battled back to even the score at 16 points apiece.

Later the Falcons used another four-point run to break a 24-24 tie and put the match away.

Nikki Finley (Fr., 5-9, Highlands Ranch, Co./Mountain Vista) added nine kills in her first career start for the Falcons. Setter Jenna Von Moos (Sr., 5-10, Stanwood, Wa.) tallied a match-high 46 assists along with six kills, eight digs and a .600 hitting percentage.

Seattle Pacific hit .354 as a team and nearly doubled Hilo’s kill total (60-32).

The Vulcans (0-7), who remain winless on the season, got 10 kills and seven digs from Taina Savage in the loss.

The Falcons head to Durango, Co. for the Fort Lewis College Invitational. Seattle Pacific is slated for four matches in two days beginning with Eastern New Mexico Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time.
