SEATTLE (July 3) Linda Blake of Seattle
Pacific University's track and field team has been awarded an NCAA
Postgraduate Scholarship for spring sports participants.
Blake (Sr., Richland, Wa), an All-American in
the heptathlon and Academic All-American, becomes the Falcons'
20th NCAA honoree and sixth in two years. Earlier this year
basketball's Tony Binetti received the award.
Blake is the fifth SPU female track and field
athlete to receive an NCAA postgraduate award.
A chemistry major with a 3.94 GPA, Blake
finished eighth in the NCAA heptathlon in May. Last winter she won
the Great Northwest Athletic Conference indoor 60-meter hurdles
indoor title and was the heptathlon champion as a sophomore.
The NCAA has awarded 58 postgraduate
scholarships of $7,500 each to 29 male student-athletes and 29
female student-athletes who participated in spring sports.
Including fall and winter sports, a total of 170 postgraduate
scholarships were awarded.
