Injury Forces Randolph to Withdraw at USA Track Meet
June 23, 2006

INDIANAPOLIS (June 23) After sustaining a foot injury, Seattle Pacific University's Chris Randolph was forced to withdraw from the AT&T USA Track & Field Championships four events into the decathlon Friday.

Randolph (Sr., Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian) bruised his left arch during his plant for the long jump, the meet's second event. He finished that event and the subsequent shot put, but was unable to complete the high jump.

Randolph and SPU coach Karl Lerum will determine next week whether the athlete can recover in time for the NACAC Under 23 Championships, July 5-7 in the Dominican Republic. Randolph had been selected to represent the U.S. After scoring 7872 points to win his second straight NCAA Division II title last month.

In his first three events Friday, Randolph ran the 100 meters in 11.40 seconds, long-jumped 22 feet, 1½ inches and threw the shot a career-best 42-10¼.

Bryan Clay, the two-time defending U.S. champion, led after the first five events with 4394 points. The decathlon concludes Saturday.
