June 20, 2006

SEATTLE (June 20) Seattle Pacific University's Chris Randolph has been selected to represent the United States in the decathlon at the NACAC Under 23 Track & Field Championships next month in the Dominican Republic.

Randolph will be one of three Americans in the multiple events in Santo Domingo July 7-9. The meet features athletes from nations throughout North America, Central American and the Caribbean.

It will be the third decathlon in six weeks for Randolph (Sr., Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian). He competes in the AT&T USA Championships beginning Friday (June 23) in Indianapolis and won his second straight NCAA Division II title May 26.

After scoring a school-record 7872 points at the NCAA decathlon last month, Randolph will be facing a USA Championships field which features 2004 Olympic silver medalist and 2005 world champion Bryan Clay and 2005 NCAA Div. I winner Trey Hardee. The two-time defending U.S. champion, Clay scored 8766 earlier this season and Hardee holds the collegiate record of 8465.

The national championships also serve as the selection meet for the IAAF World Cup, to be held in Athens Sept. 16-17. ESPN2 will televise action live from Indianapolis Saturday (3-5 p.m. PDT) and Sunday (2-4 p.m.).
