SEATTLE (June 20) Seattle Pacific University's
Chris Randolph has been selected to represent the United States in
the decathlon at the NACAC Under 23 Track & Field
Championships next month in the Dominican Republic.
Randolph will be one of three Americans in the
multiple events in Santo Domingo July 7-9. The meet features
athletes from nations throughout North America, Central American
and the Caribbean.
It will be the third decathlon in six weeks for
Randolph (Sr., Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian). He competes in
the AT&T USA Championships beginning Friday (June 23) in
Indianapolis and won his second straight NCAA Division II title
May 26.
After scoring a school-record 7872 points at
the NCAA decathlon last month, Randolph will be facing a USA
Championships field which features 2004 Olympic silver medalist
and 2005 world champion Bryan Clay and 2005 NCAA Div. I winner
Trey Hardee. The two-time defending U.S. champion, Clay scored
8766 earlier this season and Hardee holds the collegiate record of
8465.
The national championships also serve as the
selection meet for the IAAF World Cup, to be held in Athens Sept.
16-17. ESPN2 will televise action live from Indianapolis Saturday
(3-5 p.m. PDT) and Sunday (2-4 p.m.).
