SEATTLE (June 14) Brandon Crutchfield
and Jordan Dettmer of state 4A champion and nationally-ranked
Snohomish High School are among five men's soccer recruits
committed to playing for Seattle Pacific University next fall.
Completing the cast of incoming freshmen are
Josh Burnside of Black Diamond and Kennedy High School, Alec
Nelson of Lynnwood's Meadowdale and Doug Whitney of
Edmonds-Woodway.
Crutchfield scored 14 goals and assisted on 17
more for the Panthers (20-1-0), who finished ranked No. 4 in the
nation. Dettmer totaled six goals and seven assists.
Crutchfield and Dettmer, both all-Wesco
selections, join another Snohomish graduate, Justin Abel, as
newcomers to SPU. Abel, who will be a junior, transferred from
Saint John's this past winter.
Nelson led Meadowdale in assists with 14 and
Whitney scored four goals for Edmonds-Woodway. Both were all-Wesco
and club teammates of Crutchfield on the Northwest Nationals
Pharaohs, state champions in 2005 and runners-up this year.
Burnside led the Lancers with 11 goals and six
assists. Kennedy took fourth place in the state 3A championships.
He was a first team all-Seamount King Division selection and
played for the Federal Way Celtic, state finalists in '05 and
semifinalists in '06.
Seattle Pacific advanced to the second round of
the NCAA Division II tournament in 2005, finishing 15-3-3, and
lost only two seniors to graduation. Next season opens Aug. 26
against Chico State at Interbay Stadium.
