SEATTLE (May 24) Filip Popovic, a
forward from California's Skyline College who led the Coast
Conference South in field-goal percentage as a freshman, has
signed a scholarship agreement to play basketball at Seattle
Pacific University next season.
Popovic, a 6-foot-7 native of Serbia, averaged
8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds, shooting 55 percent for the San Bruno
school during an injury-shortened sophomore season. As a freshman,
he hit 57.2 percent from the field and was honorable mention
all-league.
The first signing of the spring, Popovic joins
JoJay Jackson in the new recruiting class. Jackson, a 6-5
sophomore at California's Solano JC, committed last fall. SPU
loses five seniors to graduation.
Seattle Pacific is coming off a semifinal
appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. The Falcons
finished 26-6 and won both the Great Northwest Athletic Conference
and the West Region championships.
