SPU Men's Hoops Lands Transfer From California JUCO
May 24, 2006

SEATTLE (May 24) Filip Popovic, a forward from California's Skyline College who led the Coast Conference South in field-goal percentage as a freshman, has signed a scholarship agreement to play basketball at Seattle Pacific University next season.

Popovic, a 6-foot-7 native of Serbia, averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds, shooting 55 percent for the San Bruno school during an injury-shortened sophomore season. As a freshman, he hit 57.2 percent from the field and was honorable mention all-league.

The first signing of the spring, Popovic joins JoJay Jackson in the new recruiting class. Jackson, a 6-5 sophomore at California's Solano JC, committed last fall. SPU loses five seniors to graduation.

Seattle Pacific is coming off a semifinal appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. The Falcons finished 26-6 and won both the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the West Region championships.
