SEATTLE (May 6) In their final local
appearance of the rowing season, the Seattle Pacific University
women's and men's varsity four crews finished fourth and fifth,
respectively, in their Opening Day races through the Montlake Cut
Saturday morning.
Host Washington won both races by huge margins
but the Huskies were beaten by the Russian national teams in the
featured men's and women's varsity eight Windermere Cup events.
Racing together for just the second time this
season, Seattle Pacific was nearly a full minute behind the
winning UW "A" boat in the women's race. Much of that
crew will be in the SPU varsity eight which competes at the
Pacific Coast Championships next weekend in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
The Falcon men stayed within range of the
Huskies' third boat and managed a little more than a length in
front of some ex-collegians in the Lake Union Crew. Seattle
Pacific will make the trip to Worcester, Mass., for the ECAC
National Invitational Championships next Sunday.
