Hahnemann U.S. Soccer Bio
SEATTLE (May 3) -- Marcus Hahnemann, the most
decorated All-American in Seattle Pacific University mens
soccer, has been named to the United States national team for the
upcoming 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Hahnemann, a 1993 graduate of SPU, is in his
13th year as a professional and his fourth season as the starting
goalkeeper for Englands Reading FC, which won the League
Championship. Reading has earned promotion to the Premier League
for the 2006-07 season.
This will be the first World Cup duty for
Hahnemann, who is expected to be backup to Lacey, Wash., native
Kasey Keller in goal. He has made six appearances for the U.S.
during his career, including a start vs. Cuba at Seattles
Qwest Field during the 2005 Gold Cup.
The only three-time All-American for the
Falcons, Hahnemann still holds seven school records, including
NCAA records for consecutive shutouts (10) and consecutive shutout
minutes (944). He was named the defensive MVP of the 1993 national
championship game, won by Seattle Pacific, and was the schools
athlete of the year for 1993-94.
The World Cup begins June 9, with the Americans
opening game June 12 vs. the Czech Republic in Gelsenkirchen. |
