ELLENSBURG, Wa. (Apr. 15)--Molly Barnes threw
first place honors in the javelin to highlight eight first place
finishes for Seattle Pacific University at the Spike Arlt
Invitational track and field meet Saturday at Tomlinson Stadium.
Barnes (Jr., Burien, Wa.) tossed the spear a
season best 41.26 meters in wet, windy conditions, improving upon
her previous best toss of 40.22m set three weeks ago at the Spring
Break Invitational in Edmonds.
Despite the cold, Falcons swept the pole vault
as Amy Harris (Sr., Corvallis, Or.), Allie Hedges (Sr., Richland,
Wa.) and Monica Anderson (So., Bremerton, Wa.) were all above 3.35
meters. Harris recorded the win at 3.50m; Hedges was second with
the same clearance.
Karin Rohde (So., Bellingham, Wa.) won the 5000
in 18:19.5. The sophomore had established a school record in the
event four of the last five weeks. Other top finishes in the
distance events were Megan Wrightmann (So., Bend, Or.) in the 3000
(PR 11:03.91) and Brandi McCoy (Sr., Richland, Wa.) in the 3000
steeplechase (11:54.6).
Kelsey Cooley finished on top in the long jump
with a leap of 5.15m.
Seattle Pacific scored second in the women's
standings just behind host Central, with 154 points. The Wildcats
compiled 181.50.
In the men's competition, Central scored 203
points in cruising to victory over second place Western with 174.
The Falcons were seventh (38). Eddie Strickler (Jr., Richland,
Wa.) ran to a win in the 800 in 1:55.28. Brian Cronrath (So.,
Battle Ground, Wa.) took first in the 1500 at 4:05.01 followed by
Bjorn Bostrom's (Jr., La Conner, Wa.) third place 4:06.2.
Seattle Pacific will send a select group of
athletes to the Oregon Invitational next Saturday in Eugene.
