TACOMA, Wash. (Apr. 8) Despite getting
both a victory and second-place finish from middle-distance runner
Karin Rohde, Seattle Pacific University finished runner-up to the
Western Washington women at the J.D. Shotwell track and field meet
Saturday at Baker Stadium.
Competing in wet and sometimes windy weather,
Mary Moriarty (Fr., Seattle, Wa./Ballard) was the Falcons' only
competitor to reach an NCAA provisional qualifying standard,
winning the 1500 meters in 4 minutes, 43.74 seconds.
Rohde (So., Bellingham, Wa./Mt. Baker) came
across the finish line just behind Moriarty in 4:4.86 and claimed
the 800 in 2:20.90.
Overall, Western Washington accumulated 179
points to Seattle Pacific's 163.5. The Vikings also were first
among men's teams with 186.5. SPU was eighth with 22.
Altogether, the Falcon women picked up wins in
seven events. Moriarty and Rohde each earned their third wins of
the season. On the track, Anna Soule (Jr., Puyallup, Wa./emerald
ridge) took the 100 (12.69), Kelsey Cooley (So., Missoula,
Mt./Hellgate) the 100 hurdles (15.11) and the 1600 relay
(4:06.59).
Lauren Ver Mulm (So., Mount Vernon, Wa.) threw
the javelin 135-10 to win the javelin and Allie Hedges (Sr.,
Richland, Wa.) cleared 10-11¾ to place first in the pole
vault.
For the men, Brian Cronrath (So., Battle
Ground, Wa.) had the top placement, taking second in the 5000 in a
personal record of 15:21.41. Chris Randolph (Sr., Lone Tree,
Co./Denver Christian) did not compete, resting for his first
decathlon which begins Wednesday in Azusa, Ca.
