BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Apr. 1) Seattle
Pacific University freshman Mary Moriarty won her first collegiate
3000-meter race in an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time
at the Vernacchia Team Classic track and field meet Saturday.
Moriarty (Fr., Seattle, Wa./Ballard) circled
the oval seven and a half times in 10 minutes. 14.2 seconds and
won by a margin of 7.9 seconds.
The Falcons's Allie Hedges (Sr., Richland, Wa.)
and Monica Anderson (So., Bremerton, Wa.) tied for first place in
the pole vault, both clearing 10-8 and Phil Bayley (Sr., Seattle,
Wa./King's) took the discus (119-5).
A shorthanded SPU women's squad was unable to
win the team title for the seventh straight year, finishing fifth.
Host Western Washington won both the men's and women's crowns.
