Cooley Takes Sixth in Cal Heptathlon, Hits Provisional Mark
March 30, 2006

Complete Results

BERKELEY, Calif. (Mar. 30) Kelsey Cooley of Seattle Pacific University earned a national provisional qualifying score while finishing sixth in the heptathlon at the California Multi- Event track and field meet Thursday at Edwards Stadium.

Cooley (So., Missoula, Mt./Hellgate) moved up three spots over the final three events and scored a total of 4616 points. Minnesota's Liz Roehrig won with 5274. The Falcons' Linda Blake was 11th with 4294.

With the third-fastest time (2:26.06) in the 800 meters, Cooley easily surpassed the NCAA Division II provisional standard of 4475 points. She finished eighth in the nation last season.

Wet, windy weather hindered competitors over the two days of the seven event competition, and neither Cooley nor Blake (Sr., Richland, Wa.) achieved any personal records.

Eleven SPU athletes are entered in the Stanford Invitational, which begins Friday. The balance of the teams compete at the Vernacchia Team Classic in Bellingham Saturday.
