Colorado Springs, Co. (Mar. 24) The
Seattle Pacific University gymnastics team was crowned the
conference champion at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
Championships Friday night at West Cadet Gym.
With a score of 191.650, the Falcons won their
first conference title in eight years. SPU was followed by UC
Davis (191.025), Alaska Anchorage (190.950) and Air Force Academy
(184.200).
Jessica Portlock of Alaska Anchorage finished
first on vault and floor with matching scores of 9.775 en route to
winning the all-around (38.900).
The Falcons Jaynie Reynolds (Sr., White
Rock, BC) won bars with a 9.850, SPUs No. 10 all-time score.
Reynolds finished second in the meet with 38.675 points and tied
for second on vault with teammate Kristin Bryant (Jr., Anchorage,
Ak.) (9.750). Bryant also tied for third on floor (9.700) while
Sarah Sullivan (Jr., Salem, Or.) finished second on beam and third
on vault with two 9.700s.
The Seawolves Lauren Agostino, who
finished third in the meet (38.100), tied with Portlock on floor,
while the Aggies Julia Richards won beam (9.775).
Ashley Domres (So., Scottsdale, Az.) tied for
third with Michelle Kulovitz of UC Davis on beam (9.650), and
Brianna Schwartz (Fr., Bonney Lake, Wa.) tied for third with
Portlock on bars (9.775).
Seattle Pacific (8-14) will await the
announcement of whether any Falcons will advance to the NCAA West
Region in Stanford April 8. The USA Gymnastics Championships will
be held April 13-15 in Ithaca, NY.
