SEATTLE (Mar. 20) Tony Binetti and
Dustin Bremerman of Elite Eight-bound Seattle Pacific University
were both named to the all-West Region first team for NCAA
Division II by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and
the Falcons Jeff Hironaka was voted the regional coach of
the year by his peers.
Hironaka led SPU to only its third Elite Eight
berth in 41 years, and the teams first Great Northwest
Athletic Conference title since 2002. He is now a finalist for the
national coach of the year.
Bremerman (Jr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) is
Seattle Pacifics top scorer (18.4) and ranks among the top
three-point shooters in the nation.
Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.), who was
earlier voted the GNAC player of the year, averages 18.2 points
and 5.1 assists.
The NABC All-America team will be announced
later this week. Earlier, Binetti and Bremerman had been named to
the Daktronics all-region team. Joining them on the NABC first
team were Western Washingtons Grant Dykstra and Ryan Diggs,
plus Vince Inglima of Sonoma State and Kemmy Burgess of Alaska
Anchorage.
Seattle Pacific (25-5) meets Montevallo (Al.)
