March 10, 2006

SEATTLE (Mar. 9) Seattle Pacific University sparkplug guard Mandy Wood has been voted to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association all-West Region team.

Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.), who was also a Daktronics all-district and unanimous all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference first team selection earlier this week, makes the team for the first time.

The Falcons (22-5) open with No. 23-ranked UC San Diego at the NCAA Division II West Regional in Bellingham Friday night.

Wood averaged 15.3 points and 4.2 assists during the regular season, ranking fifth and third, respectively, in the GNAC. She also ranked among the leaders in field-goal percentage (.474) and three-point percentage (.401).

Rounding out the five all-West selections were Tina Donahue of Western Washington, Leora Juster, from UC San Diego, Katie McElree from Cal State Bakersfield and Amber Simmons of Chico State.

Each of the all-region selections are finalists for the WBCA All-America team, which will be announced Mar. 21 at the Elite Eight in Hot Springs, Ark.
