Will Power Sends Seattle Pacific to Second Round of Men's West Region Tourney

SEATTLE (Mar. 10) ­ Robbie Will powered inside for a career-high 29 points and 13 rebounds and Tony Binetti added 22 points as 10th-ranked Seattle Pacific University won its NCAA Division II West Regional opener, 86-76, over Central Washington Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (23-5) will face Cal State Bakersfield in the semifinal round Saturday at 7. Western Washington and Chaminade will meet at 5.

Will (So., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) thundered to the basket for the first six of 12 unanswered points in the final five minutes. With SPU leading by just 69-68, he first wheeled for a short jumper. Will sank two foul shots then rammed home a dunk for a a seven-point lead.

Eight of Binetti's (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) points came in the last three minutes, six on free throws as the Wildcats (15-13) fouled in desperation.

The win avenged Seattle Pacific's sole home loss three weeks ago.

Lance Den Boer led Central Washington (15-13) with 27 points.

Will shattered his previous high game by seven, hitting 12 of 17 field goals. He matched best mark for blocked shots with six.

Seattle Pacific connected on 52.6 percent of its field goals and 20 of 25 free throws. It has won all 17 games this season when shooting 50 percent or higher from the floor.

Will scored 13 first-half points and SPU led by as many as 10. But Central came out strong to start the final period, taking their first lead on the second of back-to-back Den Boer treys, 49-46.

Grant Assink had 20 for CWU, which partly compensated for 38 percent shooting by making 9 of 18 threes and out-rebounding SPU 37-32.

Dustin Bremerman (Jr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) had 12 points for Seattle Pacific.
