SEATTLE (Mar. 8) Seattle Pacific
University scoring leader Mandy Wood has been voted to the
Daktronics all-West Region second team.
Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.), who was
also a unanimous all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference first
team selection earlier this week, is a first-time regional
honoree.
The Falcons (22-5) open with No. 23-ranked UC
San Diego at the NCAA Division II West Regional in Bellingham
Friday night.
Wood averaged 15.3 points and 4.2 assists
during the regular season, ranking fifth and third, respectively,
in the GNAC. She also ranked among the leaders in field-goal
percentage (.474) and three-point percentage (.401).
Leora Juster, a 5-8 junior from UC San Diego,
was voted the region player of the year. Joining Juster on the
first team were Katie McElree from Cal State Bakersfield, Amber
Simmons of Chico State, Tina Donahue of Western Washington and
Jenna Washington of Humboldt State. McElree was the lone repeater
from last year's first team.
Juster won the player of the year award by the
slimmest of margins, finishing with 127 ballot points, one point
ahead of McElree and two points ahead of Simmons.
Players selected to the region first team will
now be listed on the Daktronics All-America national ballot. The
All-America team will be announced later this month.
