SEATTLE (Mar. 9) Tony Binetti and Dustin
Bremerman, the most prolific scoring tandem in Seattle Pacific
University history, have both been named the Daktronics all-West
Region team for men's basketball.
Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) who was voted
the Great Northwest Athletic Conference player of the year earlier
in the week, made the first team. Bremerman (Jr., 6-4, Yakima,
Wa./Eisenhower) was selected to the second team.
Binetti averaged 18.5 points and 5.2 assists,
plus 2.0 steals during the regular season. He converted 57.4
percent of his field goals, including 48.2 percent on
three-pointers.
Bremerman is averaging 19.2 points and ranks
sixth in NCAA Division II three-point shooting accuracy (.465).
He's also the team's No. 2 rebounder (5.3).
The last time two SPU players made the regional
team in the same season was 1996 with Warren King and Emile
Shephard.
Seattle Pacific (22-5) hosts the West Regional
tournament beginning Friday when it faces Central Washington at
7:30. All games will be played in Brougham Pavilion.
Grant Dykstra of Western Washington was the
lone repeater from last year's team. Completing the first team
were Austin Smylie of BYU-Hawaii, Western Washington's Ryan Diggs
and J.T. Tipton of Sonoma State completed the first team. Tipton
was a second team pick a year ago.
The team is selected by the sports information
directors at the region's schools that sponsor men's basketball
and includes teams, which compete in the California Collegiate
Athletic Association, the PacWest Conference and the Great
Northwest Athletic Conference plus independent Grand Canyon.
