CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Mar. 5) Chris Randolph
of Seattle Pacific University won the seventh and final event to
finish fifth in the USA Indoor Combined Events Championships at
the University of North Carolina Sunday.
Ryan Harlan successfully defended his title
with 5,949 points. Harlan held off '04 Olympian Paul Terek, who
moved up from fourth to second during the second day to score
5,883.
The defending NCA Division II decathlon
champion, Randolph (Sr., Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian) ran the
1,000 meters in 2 minutes, 40.69 secondsa personal record by
nearly 5 secondsto finish first in the 10-man field. He
totaled 5452 points altogether, just off his SPU record of 5508
earlier this season.
Randolph's other second-day marks were a 60
hurdles time of 8.49 and a pole vault of 14 feet, 10 inches. He
was the only Div. II competitor in the competition
