Seattle Pacific Men Clinch Share of GNAC Title With 22nd Win

NAMPA, Ida. (Mar. 4) ­ Chad Williams scored 12 of his season-high 19 points in the second half, propelling 17th-ranked Seattle Pacific University past Northwest Nazarene, 110-86, to earn at least a share of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship Saturday night at the Johnson Sports Center.

Six players finished in double figures for the Falcons (14-4, 22-5), who entered the evening tied atop the GNAC standings with Western Washington. It is Seattle Pacific's first conference title since 2000 and seventh overall.

SPU could earn the right to host this week's West Regional tournament. The NCAA Division II tournament bracket and regional sites will be announced Sunday night (Mar. 5). First-round play begins Friday (Mar. 10).

Prior to Western's loss at Alaska Fairbanks Thursday, SPU was No. 2 in the regional rankings, behind the Vikings. WWU visited Alaska Anchorage late Saturday night, and with a win would earn a co-championship.

Williams (Sr., 6-8, Burlington, Wa.) drilled a pair of three-pointers during an 18-4 run to open the second half. His second trey and third of the game put Seattle Pacific ahead 67-47 with 15 minutes remaining.

Shooting 77 percent from the field in the second half, the Falcons surged to a 26-point lead at one point. They hit a season-high 70 percent (41-59) for the game, including 13 of 20 threes.

Tony Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) and Mike Bushmaker (Sr., 6-7, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) each had 18 points, Dustin Bremerman (Jr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) 17, Robbie Will (So., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) 14 and Brian Lynch (Jr., 6-1, Missoula, Mt.) 10.

It was the 16th straight game that SPU has won when shooting at least 50 percent this season. Williams made 7 of 10 field goal attempts and also had five of the team's 28 assists.

The Crusaders' Mesut Ademoglu led all players with 30 points and 10 rebounds. NNU missed 21 of 31 three-point attempts.

The Falcons never trailed after the opening minute, Their 17-point lead was trimmed to 47-43 late in the first half after two Ademoglu baskets, including a trey, ignited a rally.
