SEATTLE (Mar. 1) The outcome of Seattle
Pacific University's penultimate game of the women's basketball
season could have a strong bearing on where the NCAA Division II
West Regional is played next week.
The Falcons (21-4) take a 36-game home win
streak into Thursday night's clash with Western Washington.
Seattle Pacific has won 14 in a row overall and is No. 5 in the
latest West Region rankings.
An SPU win could result in the two teams
sharing the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship. If
the Vikings prevail, they would win the GNAC outright and could
possibly overtake Cal State Bakersfield for the top seed and host
in the West.
Chico State, the region's No. 3 team, hosts
Bakersfield Friday night, and the NCAA selection announcement is
Sunday evening.
West Region - 1. Cal State Bakersfield
22-3; 2. Western Washington 24-1; 3. Chico State 22-3; 4. UC San
Diego 21-4; 5. Seattle Pacific 21-4; 6. Cal State L.A.
19-6; 7. Humboldt State 15-10; 8. Northwest Nazarene 16-9; Central
Washington 15-9.
