SEATTLE (Mar. 1) -- Seattle Pacific University
placed a total of 10 men's and women's basketball players on the
Academic All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams.
The Falcons led all 10 GNAC teams with five men
and women. It was the third year in a row that SPU had the most
men and the second straight such honor for the women.
Brittney Kroon (Sr., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.) and
Mandy Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) made it for a third year
in a row. Kroon is a history major with 3.71 grade point average
and Wood majors in education with a 3.72.
Rachel Strand (Exercise Science, Jr., 3.37,
Shoreline, Wa./King's) was a repeat selection and both Autumn
Fielding (Psychology, Jr., 3.67, Kennewick, Wa.) and Beth
Christensen (Physical education, So., 3.53, Enumclaw, Wa.) were
first-time honorees for the women.
For the men, Tony Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw,
Wa.), and Jeff Knudson (Sr., 6-7, Mukilteo, Wa./Kamiak) were
selected for the third consecutive year. Knudson is a biology
major with a 3.58 GPA and Binetti majors in business
administration and has a 3.56.
Dustin Bremerman (Business Administration, Jr.,
3.33, Yakima, Wa/Eisenhower) and Drew Matzen (Business
Administration, Jr., 3.21, Bothell, Wa./Lynnwood) made the team in
2005 also. Tim Gabelein (Engineering & Application Science,
Sr., Langley, Wa.) was selected for the first time.
A total of 24 women and 16 men were named to
the academic teams. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a
minimum grade point average of 3.200 and be in at least their
second year of competition at their institution.
