Wood's Career High Leads SPU Women to 12th-Straight Win; Team Posts 86-65 Victory Over Humboldt State

SEATTLE (Feb. 18) – Mandy Wood scored 18 of her career-high 28 points in the first half as Seattle Pacific built a huge lead and cruised to its 12th straight victory, 86-65 over Humboldt State in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) hit two of her career-high six three pointers in the opening eight minutes as Seattle Pacific (13-1 GNAC, 19-4) jumped out to 22-8 lead. The Falcons, who led the entire game, increased their lead to 22 in the first half, but Humboldt State (9-6 GNAC, 14-10) cut the deficit to 16 at the break.

Wood shot 10-for-13 from the field, including 6-of-7 from three-point range for the Falcons, who have won 36 straight at home and 50 straight conference home games. She also led all players with four steals. Jenny Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.) chipped in 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the victory.

The Lumberjacks got a pair of double-doubles from forwards Kelly Fay and Jenna Washington in the loss. Washington finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. Fay added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Falcons shot 48 percent from the field and connected on 10-of-18 (56 percent) three-point attempts. Poe and Wood combined to shoot 8-of-9 from behind the arc.

The Jacks shot 38 percent overall and 29 percent from long range. SPU had a 45-37 advantage in rebounds. The Falcons also got 22 points off 16 Humboldt turnovers.

The Falcons head north to Alaska for a pair of GNAC games beginning Thursday against Alaska Anchorage at 8:00 p.m. SPU then returns home the following week for a pair of GNAC contests to wrap up the regular season.
