Falcons Roll Past Wolves For 11th Straight Women's Win
Grant Reaches 1000-1000 Club; Mandy Wood Nets 200th Trey

SEATTLE (Feb. 16) – Jenny Poe scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Seattle Pacific to its 11th straight victory 64-47 over Western Oregon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (12-1 GNAC, 18-4) took control of the game early, jumping out to a 15-5 lead just eight minutes into the contest. Kelsey Hill (Fr., 6-2, Portland, Or./Portland Christian) sparked SPU in the opening stages, scoring 10 of her 14 points in the first half. She also grabbed six rebounds for the game.

Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.) took over from there, scoring SPU’s first six points in the second half as the Falcons increased their lead to 20 over Western Oregon (0-14 GNAC, 0-23), who remained winless this season and lost its 29th straight overall.

WOU’s Kaila Hawley led all scorers with 18 points and eight rebounds, but also committed eight turnovers. Leada Berkey added 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Carli Grant (Sr., 5-11, Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian) added six points and 10 rebounds in the win to become just the second player in school history to score 1000 points and collect 1000 rebounds in a career.

SPU leading scorer Mandy Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) was held to nearly half her season average with just eight points in the contest, but she hit a pair of three pointers to up her career total to 200. She ranks third all-time in the GNAC.

The Falcons shot 40 percent for the game and held the Wolves to 35 percent. SPU had a 44-34 advantage in rebounding and outscored WOU 38-14 in the paint. The Falcons also forced 19 turnovers while committing just 11.

The Falcons host Humboldt State in a GNAC game Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
