Falcon Comeback Runs Out of Steam at Anchorage, Men Fall 89-75
February 11, 2006

Complete Box Score

ANCHORAGE (Feb. 11) Behind the 22 points of Kemmy Burgess, Alaska Anchorage turned back a second-half comeback by 5th-ranked Seattle Pacific University to win 89-75 at Well Fargo Sports Center Saturday night.

First place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference will be at stake Thursday night when the Falcons (11-2, 19-3) will host No. 4-ranked Western Washington.

Dustin Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) paced SPU with 17 points--15 coming after halftime. The loss snapped a five-game win streak and was only the second to an NCAA Division II opponent.

Down by 17 early in the second half, Seattle Pacific slowly pulled closer as Bremerman connected on four straight baskets, including two treys. His two free throws cut it to 72-66 with 7:45 to go.

Following a missed layup by SPU, Anchorage (7-6, 16-9) responded with a three-pointer by Aaron Lawrence and two foul shots by Burgess to lead 77-66. The visitors got no closer than eight the rest of the way.

The top three-point shooting team in the nation, Anchorage hit 10 of 20 treys. After connecting on 36 threes in the last three games, SPU was just 5-18 and shot just 44 percent (28-64) overall.

Tony Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) added 16 points and Mike Bushmaker (Sr., 6-7, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) 14 for Seattle Pacific. Joe Davis had 17 for UAA.

The Seawolves, whose only two home losses were to USC and South Carolina, led virtually the entire game. They held Seattle Pacific 18 points below its scoring average in conference play.

Poor perimeter shooting by SPU contributed to 10 straight points by the Seawolves at the end of the first half. Burgess got the final four points of the run. The Falcons began by hitting just 2 of 12 outside the arc.
