SEATTLE, Wa. (Feb. 10) San Jose State,
led by all-around winner Renae Moneymaker, captured titles on all
four individual events to defeat Seattle Pacific University in a
Mountain Pacific Sports Federation gymnastics meet Friday night at
Brougham Pavilion.
Moneymaker accumulated a 38.800 and also took
first on floor exercise (9.800) as the Spartans out-tumbled the
Falcons 192.450 to 190.200.
Other first place finishes included Shina
Cardeno on vault (9.775), Veronica Porte on bars, (9.675) and Leah
Bigelow on beam (9.775). Porte was second in the all-around
(38.675).
Seattle Pacifics Sarah Sullivan (Jr.,
Salem, Or.) totaled 38.200 over four events to finish third in the
all-around. She also placed third on beam (9.725).
The Falcons had four additional top-three
finishes. Brianna Schwartz (Fr., Bonney Lake, Wa.) and Shannon
McConahey (Fr., San Jose, Ca.) were second and third on bars.
Kristin Bryant (Jr., Anchorage, Ak.) tied for third on vault
(9.675) and Jaynie Reynolds (Sr., White Rock, BC) tied for third
on floor.
SPU started with the advantage on the first
rotation and negotiated the higher beam score. However, the
Spartans pulled away in the second and third rotations, scoring
event highs of 48.400 on vault and 48.575 on floor.
The Falcons drop to (2-5) and tumble next at
tri-meet with host Boise State and Utah State. The final home meet
of the season is Feb. 25 against Air Force. Official start time is
7pm.
