Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Feb. 2) – Mandy Wood led all scorers with 16 points, and Seattle Pacific held Seattle University just 33 points in an easy 61-33 victory in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at SU’s Connolly Center.

The Falcons (9-1 GNAC, 15-4) gave a dominant defensive performance in recording their eighth straight victory. Seattle University (5-5 GNAC, 10-8) mustered just 18 first half points and a mere 15 in the second frame for their second loss in the past three games.

Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) did most of her damage in the first half with 12 points in the opening period as the Falcons put the game away by halftime. She also finished with four rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Falcons scored the first eight points of the game and led wire to wire. SPU went on to close the first half with a 9-0 run and had enough points at halftime (36) for the victory.

Jenny Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.) added 15 points, 10 in the first half, on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 from the free-throw line. Brittney Kroon (Sr., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.) chipped in eight points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots. Carli Grant (Sr., 5-11, Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian) came up one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

The Redhawks got 10 points from Jackie Thomas in the loss. No other SU player scored more than five. The Redhawks shot just 20 percent (14-70) for the game and seven percent (1-15) from three-point range.

The Redhawks trimmed the 18-point halftime deficit down to 12 early in the second half, but never got any closer. The Falcons made sure of that with a 9-0 run, getting baskets from four different players, to extend their lead to 21 points with 14:25 left to play.

The Falcons shot 47 percent overall and 36 percent from behind the arc.

The Falcons travel to Lacey, Wa. to take on Saint Martin’s in a GNAC game Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
