SEATTLE (Jan. 28) Chris Randolph
shattered his own Seattle Pacific University record, plus the
Dempsey Facility mark while winning the men's heptathlon at the
Washington Indoor Invitational track and field meet Saturday.
Randolph (Sr., Lone Tree, Co./Denver
Christian), the NCAA Division II decathlon winner last spring,
scored a total of 5508 points to finish 50 points in front of
Weber State's Wiley King.
During his seven events over two days, Randolph
also broke his own SPU records in the long jump (22 feet, 11
inches), 60-meter hurdles (8.39) and pole vault (14-11). His old
heptathlon standard had been 5141.
His new mark is the sixth-highest mark by an
American this season and qualifies Randolph for the U.S.
Championships.
Randolph met the Div. II provisional qualifying
standard in the long jump. His other marks were 7.26 in the 60
dash, 41-11 1/2 in the shot put, 6-5 1/2 in the high jump and
2:45.27 in the 1000 run.
In the women's pentathlon, the Falcons' Kelsey
Cooley (Jr., Missoula, Mt./Hellgate) was 10th with a score of 3420
and Linda Blake (Sr., Richland, Wa.) was 11th with 3415. Both were
personal-best scores. Danielle Ayers-Stamper, now of Cal Poly San
Lis Obispo, won with 3956.
The rest of the SPU athletes will compete in
Sunday's UW Indoor Open No. 2.
