SEATTLE, Wa. (Jan. 28)Arizona State swept
the balance beam and all-around competitions en route to a
resounding 195.175 team total as they out-tumbled host University
of Washington and Seattle Pacific University in a three-way womens
gymnastics meet Friday night at Bank of America Arena.
The Huskies finished in second place on the
night, tumbling a 191.525 team composite. Close behind was Seattle
Pacific at 190.225. The Sun Devils managed to win all four floor
events, vaulting 49.050, swinging the bars to 47.950, earning
49.100 on beam and finishing up floor exercise with 49.075.
April Boone won the four event all-around
competition with a 39.200 total. Boone notched podium finishes on
beam (3rd) and floor exercise (2nd) with 9.850 and 9.875,
respectively.
Arizona States Nicole Harris and Ashley
Kelly negotiated a share of the top score on the night on beam
(9.875), while Cassandra Jusino nailed her floor routine for a
9.900.
The Huskies managed wins on vault and uneven
bars, as Ashley Houghting and Kelly McDonald notched 9.900 and
9.800, respectively. Seattle Pacifics performance was
highlighted by Sarah Sullivans (Jr., Salem, Or./Sprague)
fifth place finish on floor (9.825) and Jaynie Reynolds (Sr.,
White Rock, B.C./Marriot) and Debra Huss (Jr., Orangevale,
Ca./Bella Vista) tie for fifth on bars (9.600).
The Falcons 190.225 team total comes one week
after swinging into season with an opening night record 191.850
tally at home versus Alaska Anchorage. Seattle Pacific currently
leads the USA Gymnastics Collegiate division in the national
rankings.
SPU is on the road for its next two meets. The
Falcons take on Mountain Pacific Sports Federation member San Jose
State on Feb. 3 in California. |
