Falcons Dominate Nanooks for 6th Straight Women's Victory

SEATTLE (Jan. 26) – Mandy Wood scored a game-high 20 points, and Seattle Pacific led wire to wire in a 91-48 rout of Alaska Fairbanks in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) scored six of the first eight points in the game as Seattle Pacific (7-1 GNAC, 13-4) jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first five minutes and never looked back. Fairbanks (2-6, 5-11) missed its first 12 shots of the contest and committed four turnovers to help SPU take control early.

Wood shot 9-14 from the field and also had four assists and two steals. Autumn Fielding (Jr., 5-9, Kennewick, Wa.) added 15 points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Falcons, who won their season-best sixth straight game to remain perfect in January.

Jenny Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.) chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench in the victory.

After their sluggish start, the Nanooks cut the deficit down to 13 midway through the first half. SPU fired back with 18 unanswered points to pull ahead by 31, 49-18, with two minutes left in the half.

Karen Rabung paced Fairbanks with 13 points and five rebounds. Sheena Brown and Marsha Schirack scored 10 points each in the loss.

SPU’s Beth Christensen (So., 5-5, Enumclaw, Wa.) had eight points, five assists and a game-high four steals in the win. The Falcons scored 34 points off 21 UAF turnovers.

The Falcons topped 50 percent shooting in both halves and finished at 53 percent for the game. The Nanooks shot just 31 percent. SPU also enjoyed a 51-33 advantage in rebounding and outscored UAF 66-26 in the paint.

The Falcons host Alaska Anchorage in a GNAC game Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
